Visible light-induced photoreactions have been intensively developed, because a photoreaction under visible light does not require high energy UV light and the reactions occur under mild conditions to avoid forming unexpected by-products. TCI offers many organocatalysts and metal complex catalysts like ruthenium and iridium-based complexes for the photoreactions. It has been reported that the photoredox catalysts catalyzes Csp2-Csp3 bond formation, which is difficult to achieve with palladium catalysts. And they are used as photoactivated co-catalysts for nickel-catalyzed ligand-free aryl amination.

Chiral Auxiliary for the Synthesis of Optically Active Amino Acids

(S)-N-(2-Benzoylphenyl)-1-benzylpyrrolidine-2-carboxamide [B5519] is a chiral auxiliary agent used in the synthesis of optically active amino acids. When racemic α-amino acids substrates react with B5519 in the presence of nickel nitrate and sodium methoxide, the isomerization at the α-position of the amino acids occurs via the formation of an intermediate. The hydrolysis of the intermediate by acid, yields (S)-amino acids with high optical purity.
