Sulfonium Salt Utilized both in Mesitylation and in Trifluoromethylation

Dimesityl(trifluoromethyl)sulfonium trifluoromethanesulfonate [D5889] is a sulfonium salt also known as Mes-Umemoto reagent or Yagupolskii-Umemoto reagent. D5889 was first reported as a mesitylating reagent in cross-coupling, but later D5889 was found to be utilized in trifluoromethylation of (hetero)aryl bromides and alkyl bromides. The trifluoromethyl group is introduced by the photoredox reactions in any substrates and the reaction proceeds in complicated molecules like drugs in good or high yields. So D5889 is also useful to introduce the trifluoromethyl group at the late stage.

TCI Practical Example: Cross Metathesis Using UltraNitroCat

TCI introduces the olefin cross metathesis between acrylonitrile and ethyl 10-undecenoate using UltraNitroCat [U0116] as a ruthenium catalyst. The reaction report says that the reaction conversion rate of 11-cyano-10-undecenoic acid ethyl ester and 10-eicosenedioic acid diethyl ester are 69.3% and 6.3%, respectively. The selectivity ratio is 92 : 8.
